Bronze Sculpture

The idea with my version of  “Lady Justice” is that justice is not something separate and apart from us. We ARE the Justice system which is why the figure IS the scale. We are integral to the entire system.  The scales are not in balance, because in reality, are they ever?.

Behind her back is the sword of justice. The sword is concealed behind her back and is also removable and usable.  And her mask - it does not conceal the eyes as is typical in the Justice statues, which imply that justice is blind. In my rendition, Lady Justice can see clearly. Lawyers understand the symbolism of the chain mask.

The only standard aspect I have carried over from the traditional lady justice sculptures is the one breast hidden and the other revealed. This speaks to how justice is half revealed and half concealed.
